FG has commenced payment of minimal wage – Ngige

The Federal Federal government has commenced having to pay the new N30,000 bare minimum wage but is at present restricted to junior employees of levels 1 to 6.

Speaking during the weekend, the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, manufactured this known in Enugu.

The Minister described, that the the junior personnel started off acquiring the new minimum amount wage final month, Newswatch.ng experiences.

He explained it was thus wrong for the Nigerian Labour Congress to claim that the Federal Governing administration was hesitant to pay out the new least wage.

He said: “The big hurdle in the minimum wage situation has been crossed.

“We have crossed the rubicon and the rubicon was getting a new fee for the minimum wage.

“And the minimal wage is the lowest remuneration paid as payment to a worker for his solutions and this is for the least paid employee in Nigeria.

“It is for those on least expensive rung of the payment ladder.

“And in the community service, it is for the workers on Quality Amount 1 Action 1.

“We moved it from N18,000 as in the aged Act to N30,000.

“To me, that was the major crossing of the rubicon.

“When you do that, there is what is identified as consequential adjustment upstairs due to the fact you have by transferring N18,000 to N30,000 crossed some salary grade degrees and surpassed them.

“Therefore, you will have to get people folks that you have crossed and handed to a greater stage than N30,000, which the lowest individual now is earning.

“So, that is the heritage of the consequential adjustment.

“And when you also do that for the decreased degree, Quality Level 1 to Grade Stage 6, the executive cadre, which begins from Grade Level 7 to 17, you should also give them a consequential motion, so that they will have a feel that their subordinates have moved up to meet them, mainly because some individuals now in Stage 6 now transfer into aged Amount 10 income framework by the new least wage adjustment.

“The personal sector workers are intended to do their possess negotiation with their businesses.

“But negotiation with authorities staff, because public provider is federal government, is what is now likely on and which is stalemated.

“I have instructed you that we exited as ministers and so, the previous committee did not have the authentic color as it should be.

“Now that the cabinet has been formed, and even with the exit of Head of Service, that governing administration committee will be reconstituted and ideas are on for it to be reconstituted upcoming week, so that we can then engage Joint Negotiation Council of labour.

“We are not negotiating with the labour union government simplicita because this does not concern each and every worker.

“It is workers in the general public service, what you connect with general public sector.

“So, there is a variance and that distinction is what I want the public to know.

“The next leg is that among Quality Degree 1 Phase 1 to Quality Level 6, there is a partial arrangement previously and the consequential adjustment has been worked out and the Federal Governing administration has compensated the August salary dependent on the minimum wage.

“August salary has been paid. That is the report the Accountant-Common gave us in a conference.

“So, categorically, government has began partial implementation of minimum wage.

“They have commenced making use of the minimum amount wage payment. So, they have compensated in August.

“They are going to fork out in September with arrears spanning from April 18 to employees in this band that I have so advised you.

“And as for workers from Grade Amount 7 to 17, that their negotiation with the committee of long-lasting secretaries, symbolizing us, has hit the rocks, we, as govt, are likely to reconstitute the committee and engage them.

“So, they ought to not be issuing threat of strike for the reason that they know that government has not settled down.

“They know it. They have not observed my deal with in any of their negotiation because I have not gotten any briefing from people who ended up in the committee prior to us.

“They have to do us a handover of exactly where they stopped in the negotiation. That is how governing administration features and then, we consider it from there.

“They have not accomplished a formal handover. We are going to reconstitute a committee subsequent week and the aged committee will do a handover.

“I can guarantee you that we’ll speedily negotiate with labour and the JNC. So, it is not superior for them to say governing administration is dragging their feet.

“They know the trouble. They know governing administration has not settled down. So, that is the problem.”

Ngige’s claim was corroborated by the Nationwide President of the Nigeria Civil Company Union and a member of the Joint Community Company Negotiating Council, Lawrence Amaechi.

Amaechi said: “They have absent to start the payment.

“They advised us that they have started the payment and we have verified from our members that they ended up paid in August and have promised to spend the arrears in September.

“But negotiations have stalled for now and through our past assembly, we stated that we were being heading to report to our principals, which we have accomplished.

“We are waiting for directives from our customers on what to do.

“But we have started out mobilising against them and hope that they will see cause and increase on what they are offering.

“The assembly had adjourned and there is no date nonetheless for the up coming conference.”
