TOTTENHAM missed out on the chance to go ten points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea after they were pegged back at Brighton.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggled to find a breakthrough during the first period but made a quickfire start to the second.
And there was no doubt who this goal would be credited to – despite Harry Kane’s strike deflecting in off Seagulls defender Bruno on the line.
That was the striker’s 26th Prem goal of the campaign and moved him to within four of Golden Boot rival Mo Salah of Liverpool.
But it would not be enough to seal the points and strengthen their grip on the top four.
Just 143 seconds later they found themselves level again.
Jose Izquierdo raced into the Spurs box before being brought down by Serge Aurier.
That left referee Kevin Friend with no option but to point to the spot.
And Pascal Gross kept his cool to thump it left-footed into the net.
The draw edges Chris Hughton’s men even closer to safety in their first season in the top-flight.
His side are now eight points clear of the drop zone.
Brighton are 13th in the table with just four games remaining.
They travel to Burnley next in the top-flight while Spurs turn their focus to the FA Cup where they face Manchester United in the semi-final on Saturday.
